Will of Isaac Dent

of St Michael, Cornhill, City of London, Middlesex attested 25 Dec 1789

I Isaac Dent of Birchin Lane London Gunpowder Merchant do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following that is to say I give and bequeath unto my Brother in Law John Dent the elder of Nettlepot Lunedale in the Parish of Rombaldkirk Yorkshire the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds and I give and bequeath unto my Nephew John Dent the younger Son of the before named John Dent the elder the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds and I give and bequeath unto my Niece Agnes or Ann Alderson Wife of Christopher Alderson of Lunedale aforesaid Farmer Daughter of the first named John Dent the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds and I give and bequeath unto my Niece Margaret Breckinfield Wife of Breckinfield of Lunedale aforesaid and Daughter of the said first named John Dent the sum of John Dent the sum of one thousand five hundred pounds all which Legacies I direct shall be paid within six months after my decease but that the two Legacies left to the said Agnes or Ann Alderson and Margaret Breckinfield shall be paid out by my Executors in the Publick Funds or on Government Securities at Interest thereof respectively for their respective Lives for their sole and respective uses and Independent of their Husbands or their Debts Power or Control and after their respective deaths the principal of their respective Legacies and all future Interest thereof to go and be divided amongst their respective Children equally share and share alike and I give and bequeath unto my Nephews William Raine Joseph Raine and John Raine one Guinea each and I give and bequeath unto Sarah Lindsey Wife of Samuel Lindsey of London Carpenter the sum of one hundred pounds I give and bequeath unto Mr John Commins off the Post Office London the sum of twenty pounds and to my Clerk Mr Daniel Murrill the Sum of twenty pounds and I give and bequeath Mrs Ann Spencer late of Turnerholme in Lunedale aforesaid and who used to be about my Fathers house if living at my decease the sum of twenty pounds All which last mentioned Legacies I direct shall be paid by my Executors within six months next after my decease and I give and bequeath unto my housekeeper Catherine Wigginton one Annuity or clear yearly sum of Forty pounds of Lawful Money of Great Britain for and during the term of her natural life to be paid her quarterly on the four usual quarterly days of payment in the year and the First quarterly payment thereof to be made on the first of the said quarterly days of payment happening next after my decease and I charge all my Real and personal Estate with the payment thereof and I give and bequeath unto Mr William Tinkler now living with me my Powder Mills and Premisses at Chilworth in Surry and all my Right and Interest in the same and in and to the Lease agreed to be granted me thereof by Earl Spencer and all my Term to come therein and all the Gear Utensils and other things belonging to the same to and for his own use and Benefit And I give and bequeath unto Mr Thomas Hearl of Narrow Street Limehouse Gentleman and the said William Tinkler my Executors hereinafter named the sum of one hundred pounds each And I give devise and bequeath unto the two Daughters of the said Thomas Hearl by my late Niece Mrs Margaret Hearl deceased all my Freehold Copyhold and Leasehold Estates and all the rest and residue of my Personal Estate and Effects not hereinbefore by me otherwise disposed of after and subject to the payment of my Debts Funeral and Testamentary Expences and the Legacies and Annuity hereinbefore by me given and bequeathed To hold the same unto the said two Daughters of the said Thomas Hearl their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns according to the natures extent and duration of my said Estates respectively equally to be divided between them share and share alike and to take as Tenants in Common and not as Joint Tenants and I hereby nominate constitute and appoint the said Thomas Hearl and William Tinkler Executors of this my Will and I revoke all former and other Wills by me at any time heretofore made In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the twenty fifth day of December in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine
