Will of John Nicholson

of Romaldkirk, Cotherstone, Yorkshire attested 15 Mar 1798

This is the last Will and Testament of me John Nicholson of Cotherston in the County of York
Taylor made this fifteenth day of March in the year of our Lord One thousand seven Hundred and
Ninety Eight First I charge all my Personal Estate with the Payment of my just Debts Funeral
Expences and the Probate of this my Will I Give and Bequeath unto John Hutchinson of Cotherston
aforesaid Cordwainer All my Bonds Promissory Notes and other Securities for Money and the Principal
Money and Interest therein due and owing Ready Money Household Furniture Beds and Bedding
Books Pictures and all other my Personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever or of what kind
or Nature soever (Except as after mentioned) To Hold the same unto the said John Hutchinson his
Executors Administrators and Assigns In Trust thereout to pay the following Legacies or sums of Money
hereinafter mentioned and I do charge the same with the Payment thereof accordingly (that is to say)
To Thomas Nicholson of Askrigg Yeoman the Legacy or Sum of Thirty Pounds, To Joseph Hutchinson
of Durham Cordwainer the Legacy or Sum of Fifteen Pounds, To George Hutchinson also of Durham
Cordwainer the Legacy or sum of Fifteen Pounds, To Hannah Benson Wife of James Benson the
Legacy or Sum of Twenty Pounds and all my Linen and Silver Plate, To Jane Preston of Durham
Spinster the Legacy or Sum of Five Pounds, To Caleb Jopling of Cotherston Dyer the Legacy or sum of
Ten Pounds, To George Jopling of Staindrop Cordwainer the Legacy or Sum of Ten Pounds, To Jane
Jopling Widow the Legacy or Sum of Three Pounds, To Mary Jopling of Cotherston Spinster Daughter of
Joseph Jopling the Legacy or Sum of Three Pounds, To Elizabeth Stubbs Wife of W Stubbs Schoolmaster the
Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shilling and a Feather Bed marked A, To Sarah Hutchinson of
Cotherston Spinster the Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shillings and half a Dozen China Cups
and Saucers, To Elizabeth Creighton Wife of Thomas Creighton the Legacy or Sum of Three Pounds
,To Sarah Allason Spinster the Legacy or Sum of Three Pounds and half a Dozen China Cups and
Saucers, To Mary Allason Wife of Robert Allason the Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shillings, To
Jane Hutchinson Wife of William Hutchinson the Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shilling, To
Elizabeth Smith Wife of George Smith the Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shilling, To Mary
Proctor Wife of Robert Proctor the Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shilling, To Mary Hutchinson
of Cotherston Spinster the Legacy or Sum of Five Pounds, To Mary Jopling Daughter of John
Jopling the Legacy or Sum of One Pound One Shilling and To Jane Jopling Daughter of the said
John Jopling the Legacy or Sum off One Pound One Shilling all which said several and respective
Legacies or Sums of Money I order and direct to be paid by the said John Hutchinson his Executors
Administrators or Assigns out of my said Personal Estate to the said several and respective Legatees
or to their several and respective Executors Administrators or Assigns within Twelve Months next
after my decease And I direct the Silver Plate Linen China and Beds so bequeathed to Hannah
Benson, Elizabeth Stubbs, Sarah Hutchinson and Sarah Allason to be given to them respectively
immediately after my decease And I do Nominate Constitute and Appoint the said John Hutchinson
Residuary Legatee and Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby Revoking all
former and other Wills by me at my Time Heretofore made and I do publish and declare this
only to be my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have to this my last Will and
Testament contained in this and the Succeeding Sheet off Paper hereunto annexed Set my Hand
and Seal (to wit) my Hand at the Bottom of the first Sheet and my Hand and Seal to this Sheet and
my Seal at the Top of the first Sheet where the two Sheets are fixed together the Day and Year
first before written.

hereunto annexed was Signed and Sealed by the said John Nicholson
the Testator and by him Published and declared as and for his last
Will and Testament In the Presence of us who have Subscribed our
Names as Witnesses thereto In his Presence at his request and in
the Presence of each other
